What's a Green Slip and Do I Need One?
Confused about all the coloured pieces of paper you need when purchasing or registering a car?
Here's a simple rundown of what puts the ‘green' in green slip...Interestingly enough it's got nothing to do with anything, other than the colour of the paper it comes printed on!
Explanation
A CTP (Compulsory Third Party) Green Slip is a requirement for every registered motor vehicle in Australia. It protects you from legal liability for personal injury to any other party in the event of a personal injury claim. It does not cover any property damage.
In NSW Green Slips are purchased separately from comprehensive insurance (in some states this is incorporated into registration or comprehensive insurance costs).
Cover at a glance.
You will be covered Australia wide, 24 hours a day for:
-
your passengers
-
other road users, such as drivers, passengers, pedestrians, cyclists, motor cyclists and pillion passengers
-
injuries caused through the use of a trailer
What it doesn't cover you for?
Damage to property including vehicles, or personal injury if you are the driver at fault.
What affects the cost of a CTP Green Slip?
Insurers will assess your risk factor according to things such as:
-
your accident record
-
the age of all regular drivers that drive your vehicle
-
the age of your vehicle
-
the type of vehicle
-
comprehensive or third party insurance
-
the purpose for which your vehicle is used
-
if it's a renewal or a new Green Slip
What's it going to cost you?
Visit the Motor Accidents Authority (MAA) website to calculate how much ‘green' you are going to have to fork out for your CTP Green Slip.
