Is Green the New Black?

It seems that everyone is jumping on the green bandwagon. Or as we call it the “Greenwagon”. Even we have with our Green Cars section! This is where you can find out exactly what everyone is talking about when it comes to Green Motoring. We thought we’d go back to basics and explain what a Green Car is, what the advantages of a Hybrid Car is and list every diesel car available in Australia.
But is this whole green thing just another way marketers can differentiate their brand and get consumers to take notice of their products and services? I’d have to say yes and no. The Greenhouse effect is real. Carbon dioxide contributes to the greenhouse effect. Cars emit carbon dioxide. In fact, according to the Australian Greenhouse Office, in 2002 cars emitted about 8% of total national emissions. Add trucks and light commercials to this and the contribution to Australia’s total emissions is 13%.
So whilst plenty of companies are “greening” their offering to get their share of our coins, if the end result is that we lead healthier lives both now and in the future, I am quite happy for this new wave of “must do and have” to take a chunk of my spending!
