Don't Be a Dipstick When Checking Your Oil!

A girlfriend drives a new BMW 1 Series. She's had it for about a year and was quite concerned as she had never checked the oil. She had a look under the bonnet and was left lost so I came to her rescue-having been around cars all of my life and priding myself on the fact that I know a little more than most of my friends when it comes to cars.
I looked and I looked and I looked. Not because I didn't know what I was looking for-it's a dipstick with a round handle at the top so that you can easily identify it and pull it out. I moved my way around from the left hand side to the right hand side of the engine bay with the eyes of a hawk, but to no avail. I succumbed to the assistance of my husband, who, to my great delight couldn't find it either!
My back up plan (which I rarely resort to) was to read the manual. The mystery of the missing dipstick was solved. There was none! The car automatically checks its oil level when you play with a couple of buttons located near the indicator stalk.
No more lifting the bonnet to check your oil level. No more dirty hands. No more feeling like a dipstick! That's what I call an advancement in technology.
