Hyundai Makes Another Move in the Eco Car Game

The competition is getting even tougher as all car companies roll their dice in the eco car game. And Hyundai is just as keen as any to be a player. It won the 2007 Carsguide Green Car of the Year award for the i30 diesel, which is no green feat! You've now got a choice of a diesel engine across a good chunk of the Hyundai range.
Hyundai Grandeur
Hyundai has just launched a diesel engine in 2009 Grandeur model-the top of the line large family/executive car. The 2.2 litre turbo diesel engine provides a smooth ride both in the city and getting away from it. It consumes about 7.9 litres per 100kms, which is good for a car of this size. You can also have a 3.8 litre petrol engine, if fuel economy is not at the top of your wish list-it consumes about 10.8 litres per 100kms. The car is jammed packed with safety features including Electronic Stability Program, Anti lock Braking System, Electronic Brake force Distribution and 8 airbags throughout the car. It's a big car inside; especially the boot-it's huge!

Santa Fe
The Santa Fe comes in a choice of 5 or 7 seats, which makes it ideal for a family car, whatever your family is. And you've also got a choice of 4 diesel models. Whilst it's great around the city-easy to park, easy to see out of, good fuel economy-it feels at home in the off road world as well. We thrashed it through rivers, up steep rocky inclines and across slippery sandy stretches. We had fun, and the car did too. Not sure about the people who had to clean it on our return....

More Eco Cars to Play With
All up, Hyundai offers a diesel engine in 6 of its models including the i30, Sonata, Grandeur, Santa Fe, iMax and iLoad. Rumours are that there will be new models available next year that will also offer a diesel engine-although this has not been confirmed. To add to their eco car hand, Hyundai in Korea are diligently developing hybrid, electric and hydrogen fuel celled cars. Whilst there is nothing confirmed for Australia at this stage, if Hyundai want to win the game, these models will certainly put them in contention.
