Frequently Asked Questions

1. How long do you test drive a car before posting a review?

To give an informed review we put the car through its regular paces. This will include some freeway driving, parking at shopping centres, filling the boot with groceries, gym gear, work equipment and of course driving your friends around. And when we're reviewing a family car, we'll put in the child restraints and cart them around too!

2. Why don't your reviews go into more mechanical detail?

The input that we've received from our visitors is that they can get brochures from the car companies that will provide them with this level detail. So we've focussed on the driveability, safety, comfort and convenience features of the car that you experience in your everyday driving.

3. Why don't you review used cars?

Used cars can vary enormously in how they are driven and kept. Also many used cars will have accessories added to them which could affect their performance. Which means that the review that we do on a certain model used car may not reflect the quality or drive of the same model used car you may be considering buying. Our user reviews will provide some assistance in this area.

4. Who can I talk to resolve an issue with a car dealer or mechanic?

Your first action is to bring it up with the company you are dealing with. I will always put things in writing and clearly state what the problem is and the result I am looking for. If you are not happy with the outcome, each state has an Office or Department to deal with this. Please see our useful links section for how you can contact these bodies.

5. Who owns HerCar.com.au?

HerCar.com.au is independently owned by W Communications Group Pty Ltd and the Amstal Group. Melissa Pye, Managing Director, created the first car website for women over 5 years ago. HerCar.com.au was born out of these early learnings and continues to grow to meet market demand. Melissa is seen as the most credible, objective Australian source for women and car information.  The Amstal Group is a private equity business specialising in start-ups and commercialisation projects.
